Letter from the Interim Minister

Dear Friends

It is good to be back with you after a short break.   Over the next few weeks of August we will be gearing ourselves up to reinstate full services with effect from the first week in September. This means that our first Wednesday BCP will be held on 2nd September at 10.30am and our regular Sunday services will resume on 6th September.

Please note that at this point, for each service and event we hold we will continue to keep a register and we would ask people to sanitise their hands on arrival.

I would also like to encourage you to keep the forthcoming appointment process for a new rector very firmly in your prayers.  Although we have not yet been given a timescale, members of the PCC have been appointed to work with the Bishop’s office and a profile has been put together.   The appointment of a new rector is probably one of the single most important things that will happen in the life of this church in the coming 12 months and it does need to be actively covered in prayer.

May God bless you in all that you do.  Alessandra

Manx Christianity 2020

There is an exhibition opening this Sunday 9th August at the Cathedral at 3.30pm with a celebration of evensong. Today there are many different expressions of Christian faith across the island. The exhibition shows the breadth of this through a series of boards – one for each Anglican parish including Onchan. Do come along, Alessandra together with other parish ministers will be taking part in the celebration of evensong and then speaking briefly about Onchan parish today.

Electoral Roll

If you wish to be added to the electoral roll there are forms at the back of church. Please note that the cut off date is 30th August.

Church Wardens and PCC Members

If you are interested in becoming a churchwarden or a member of the PCC please speak to Alessandra or one of the wardens. There will be forms at the back of church for nominations. There are also electoral roll forms. Church wardens stand for 1 year and can be re-elected each year up to a maximum of 6 years. PCC members are elected for 3 years. We currently have 5 vacancies for PCC membership. These vacancies do need to be filled we would therefore ask you to prayerfully consider standing for election.

Chalice Assistants Training

As we are hoping to restart the shared chalice on Sunday 16th August, there will be a training session for the chalice assistants on Wed 12th August at 7.30pm. All the Assistants do need to attend this session. Please let Alessandra know if you cannot make it.

Verger Training

There will be a training session for funerals for anyone wishing to join the vergering team on Wed 19th August at 7.30pm in the church.  If you are unable to attend please let Alessandra know.

Prayers for Daily Life - Trinity

O God, the creator and preserver of all,

we pray for people in every kind of need;

make your ways known on earth,

your saving health among all nations …

We pray for the Church;

guide and govern us by your good Spirit,

that all who profess and call themselves Christians

may be led into the way of truth,

and hold the faith in unity of spirit,

in the bond of peace and in righteousness of life …

We commend to your fatherly goodness

all those who are any ways afflicted or distressed,

in mind, body or estate;

comfort and relieve them in their need,

give them patience in their sufferings,

and bring good out of all their afflictions …

We remember those who have gone before us

in the peace of Christ,

and we give you praise for all your faithful ones,

with whom we rejoice in the communion of saints …

All this we ask for Jesus Christ’s sake.

All   Amen
